Ben Hopson's Workshop in Umea (SE)

Ben Hopson is the founder of the discipline "Kinetic Design", what he teaches at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. He made a guest workshop in Sweden at Umea Institute for Design and he documented it with a lot of short videos (click the title).

Much to see and to learn making a trip through the website of Ben Hopson !

Absolutely sensationally astoundingly brilliant! This work is like a dream, Falk! I never even knew such a specialty existed! Too exciting.

The mind boggles.

Fine to generate so much joy, Shelley! In addition: I wrote a Hopson related entry - a little bit different - also in my own blog yesterday:

Yes, Falk, I went through all his sites after your linking and saw his wonderful gear ring. I think I even saw it without paying attention to who designed it on one of the 3D printing blogs I follow a while back as well.

The thing I love about what you posted here was that many of the kinetic movement student works are quite automata like and are inspiring playful takes for new paper mechanism concepts.

Mr. Hopson's workshop students might be intending their pieces for other forms of art, but for me it was like your finding a fresh vein of pop-up motion notions.
