Flickr Friday: Fragilefreaks by Perro Loco

Here is a new thing I thought I'd start up called Flickr Fridays. There is a lot of great paper art on flickr so I thought every Friday I'd post one of my favorite flickr folks. First up fragilefreak aka Perro Loco. He has lots of fun paper and cardboard toys. Check out the slide show below and his flickr stream here.

New Site and blog for Rob Ives

Check out the new robives.com! New models including some free blank versions of his amazing automatas. My favorite part of the new site however is his workshop blog. It's a behind the scenes look at making of his marvelous models. Essential viewing for paper geeks like myself:)

Flight of the Conchords Paper Toys!

I was a late subscriber the "Flight of the Conchords", but a long flight without a toddler (for once) prompted me to watch the in-flight entertainment. And entertaining Brett and Jemaine are.  Now you can have your very own Brett and Jemaine! Just visit the toy shop of Morgan Gleave.

I loved seeing the process behind such a fun object of art! I've shown Kiel's website before, so this is a nice companion to the finished art gallery on his site.

Walking on Air

Free-hand-cut (!) from recycled paper (!) art piece paper chandelier that is made of 25 individual lights and can be purchased in segments, boxed-up, and installed at home

From the artist:
"‘Cloud Walk’ is light-weight, all treated with none-flammable spray. The Cloud Walk chandelier is sustainable: the material is recycled paper, the method of production is handmade, and the product is to be used with energy-saving LED light sources. By introducing the Chinese paper-cutting tradition into a contemporary use, the chandelier is sustaining a culture."

The project is a continuation of artist Yu Jordy Fu's Cloud Lamps.

A Likely Story!

Master paper automata artist, Rob Ives, announced the release of his newest paper animation kit today: The Dog Ate My Homework! It's available as a full color download to print and make today. He'll also release a plain white version for "pay what you like" after October 2oth. Here's a peek of your solid handy excuse in action:

Rob's printed kits are always fun and a pleasure to construct, and employ exceptionally clever mechanisms. Out of all the automata kits Husband Paul has bought, it's Rob's that live on his desk at work. Oh, the hundreds of hands that have picked up Rob's cat walk and delighted at it's four little paws walking along.

October Greetings! Skull from Raven's Blight

It is somehow already October, and so the perfect time to mention Raven's Blight for what is most likely the fourth year in a row.  Halloween usually brings something new from Raven's Blight, and this skull is a lovely addition to the frightful collection you'll find there.  The skull is a nice realistic color and texture, AND is real human-size too. Go to Raven's Blight to begin crafting your Halloween decorations early!

Attack of the Giant Spider

Feel the season change? Feel it getting a bit cooler, the days getting shorter. Getting ready to get your Halloween groove on, folks?!

Sweet and generous Scherenschnitte (paper cutting) artist, Cindy Ferguson, has made a witty wonderful GIANT SPIDER ATTACK paper design that she will be sharing a template for on her blog next week. If you're ready to get scary!
