New free downloads at 3EyedBear!

Save your Wrapping Paper Tubes...

This amazing piece of sculpture, called "Paper Tower" by Shigeru Ban is part of a London design festival. Though I will admit that it is actually made of cardboard, and is connected by metal joints, it is spectacular enough to warrant a post at Paper Forest.  The pieces really challenges what can be created with ordinary objects and a plan. See more at Atelier 29.

So I'm not exactly sure what's going on here but this Coca-Cola web site has some killer papertoys by Carlos Giovani. I found them via his flickr. Go to this site and after it loads click the upper right corner to print the papertoy. Every time you go back you get a different character.

Miss Katy's Paper Kitty

Illustrator and Automata engineer, Katy Hargrove, has announced that a paper model she designed was included in a Dark Stalkers Tribute book (have no idea what that is) BUT! I do know that Katy has made a nice sitting cat model/coin bank and has posted the template on her blog to download, print out to card stock, and use.

I first discovered Katy though her generous explanation of how she develops a paper prototype for her moving illustration Automata sculptures just like a friend would. I found part 1 and part 2 of her Works in Progress videos incredibly enlightening on the general mechanics involved in creating Automata. She doesn't just show us the finished model, she brings us along with her thought process and shows us what works, what doesn't, and why. So valuable.

She provides words to live by as well, My favorite from the clips:
"Work in small areas, don't overwhelm yourself with the whole thing."

I'm tapping my foot waiting for MORE from Miss Katy! Or maybe sitting smiling with my paws folded?
