Educational and Fun

Alright - Educational stuff is not usually super fun, but despite the educational look to these books above and the others at Bellerophon Books, they sure seem super fun. The totem pole books allow you to cut and paste totem poles out of paper that actually go from floor to ceiling. Floor to Ceiling? That really does sound fun. The site has different cut and paste project books for sale that combine a bit of history and education with something to do. They've got cars, Viking ships, castles, paper dolls, and more.

Andrea Dezso

My friend Mary led me to this site of lovely paper cutouts and an amazing variety of techniques used by artist Andrea Dezso to create her beautiful narrative work. I didn't know paper could be transformed into something so theatrical.
Felt Club XL!

People who like paper craft also like crafts that aren't paper which happen to be available for purchase at an awesome Los Angeles event, right? If not, then this would simply be shameless self-promotion. Either way, come visit me this Sunday and say hello at Felt Club XL if you are in the area.

ReadyMade's Recycled envolopes
Here is a great Green stationary idea from the folks at ReadyMade. They are selling a note card pack that includes fun envelopes that are made from the pages of old back issues of there magazine. These inspired me to actually hand write a note and mail it. Can't remember the last time I did that! It also inspired me to build an envelope out of an old comic book page for a friends birthday card. You can get them at the ReadyMade online shop here.

T-Rex at Flying-Pig

Among the things I like about the models at Flying Pig are the variety of projects, mechanisms and ideas to be found. The last model I posted (the Cuckoo) was particularly unique because it added sound to the mix. Some of the models have rubber bands that help the mechanisms "pop". The newest T-Rex model uses an independent in the animation. This fun model picks up the accompanying paper caveman and then puts him back down. A fun and funny model available for purchase at the flying pig site.
Hed Kase
I've got a ton of paper goodness I want to share with you guys in my backlog. So I'm going to post a lot this week and try to catch back up! First up is Brian Castleforte's new paper toy series "Hed Kase". First Kase is Nice Bunny with more designs dropping about every week. Download Nice Bunny and keep up with the Hed Kase project here at the Nice Bunny blog.

Thin Sheet Anemometer

I have mentioned Paperpino's lovely site of paper models before. Every time I check back I remember that there are plenty of models I'd like to find the time to make on his site.
The Removeable Interlocking Pin System is fascinating to me, and allows for models that are easy to break apart and reassemble. Many of the mechanisms in these models have no need for glue! I post this, the second contraption based on the plans and drawings of Leonardo Da Vinci because I have not posted it yet. But this post is a reminder to check out all the other stuff on the Paperpino site! The models are free or cheap, so check them out!
About this particular model, from the website:
"Within the frame of his studies about the flight, Leonardo designed an instrument for measuring the wind intensity and direction. In the so called "thin sheet anemometer", the wind intensity is proportional to the shift of the thin sheet, measured along a graduated scale. The wind direction is shown by the position taken by the wind vane.Within the frame of his studies about the flight, Leonardo designed an instrument for measuring the wind intensity and direction. Being a person with a weakness for nice packaging, I must mention that this download includes the pieces for making a box to fit the model in. A lovely touch.
